Frisch by Frisch - in 200 words or less
September, 2003

Native of Minnesota, born a Leo in 1948 and I now live in San Francisco.

My first Bear cartoon was published in the mid 80's. I was the first person to produce a "Bear Designed" t-shirt for the budding Bear community in 1986. Since then over 40 designs have graced the front and back of some 20,000 shirts and hats.

I am one of the founders of the Bear Expo and a founder of the Bears of San Francisco who produced the first International Bear Rendezvous in 1995.

I have been in two relationships that have both lasted 10 years & I am now single. I am a prostate cancer survivor. My drawings have helped raise thousands and thousands of dollars for charities across the world.

Drawing cartoons is more of a hobby than a career. I am very thankful for who and what this hobby has brought into my life. I do know it has put a smile on someone’s face (mine) and I hope it does the same for you.

To all of my friends and fans and to everyone new this site may reach- Thanks!

Bear of the Month

When it comes to icons in the San Francisco Bear Community, Fran Frisch [is] unmatched. always there to donate artwork for fledgling bear clubs or for bear events, one simply has to ask and Fran does not hesitate to help out for a worthy cause. As a matter of fact, just last month my article had a logo for TeamBEAR that was done by Fran. See!

Go to your closet right now. I'll wait... ... ... Are you back yet? If you looked close enough, I guarantee you that you had at least one t-shirt in there with Fran's artwork on it. Whether it's artwork for International Bear Rendezvous, a bear logo for a bear club or artwork from one of his t-shirts, there's hardly a person who calls themselves a bear that doesn't have something with Fran's recognizable signature on it.

Fran is one of the most elusive bears that we all know of, but may not know personally, because be prefers to work behind the scenes. Usually he can be found behind the counter at "Mr. S." Many people don't know, but Fran also does many of the title vests that you see in the Bear & Leather community, including the vests for the International Bear Rendezvous.

Speaking from the heart, I know that for many people when it comes to donations, they often think of money, but I for one, know that donating your talents and skills can often go a lot farther than digging into your pocket. No one else exemplifies this more than Fran Frisch... His artwork alone has brought in tens of thousands of dollars for the IBR Auction! It is without surprise that the IBR committee unanimously voted to give Fran the Bear Hug Award this year for his contributions to IBR and the bear community.

Thank you Fran for all your hard work and your tireless dedication to the San Francisco Bear Community. You are an inspiration to us all.
